Sunsets from the winter solstice to the summer solstice in Sicily

The impossible photo is possible

Unusual picture I took at sunset with the aid of a special mirror (with effect “Pepper’s ghost”) , which filtered the Sun light and at the same time reflected the Moon behind me.

(I have noticed that they have this effect the mirrors that are used on cars)

In this way I was able to catch the Sun and the Moon at the horizon at the same time and with a single click, pointing at the Sun and adjusting with very small movements.

Details: Single shot; Camera Canon sx 50hs, 84,75mm; 1/60 sec; f/5,6; ISO 80
Date: 2017/06/08

Location: Randello (Ragusa – Sicily) -Italy

Sole E Luna

“This rare phenomenon happens every nine years (half of the SAROS period) and it involves:
– the transit of the Earth on one of the nodes corresponding to the Full Moon (which generated the eclipse)
– the position of the Earth in the equinoctial point (on these days the sun rises exactly in the east and sets exactly in the west);
The lunar nodes correspond to the equinoctial nodes, showing the rise and the setting of the Sun and the Moon not only from the same point but exactly at EAST and at WEST and in opposite constellations (Virgo and Pisces).”

Sunset from the Winter Solstice to Summer Solstice in Sicily

I created this interactive picture ( http://greenflash.photo/?da_image=sunsets-solstice-winter-summer-solstice) made of many sunsets from the same position, from the winter solstice to the summer solstice.

By clicking on each Sun in the picture you can access many info about every single sunset: weather data, mirages (if any), a video and the whole sequence of the sunset.
For each sunset I made 3 types of shooting from the same location:
– 1 shot at 18mm using a Nikon D 7100 Reflex
– the whole sequence at 215mm with a Canon SX 50 HS
– 1 video shot using a Sony Handicam

The weather data are provided by Civil Protection Weather Station at the port of Marina di Ragusa (Rg) – Sicily (Italy).

Until the 26th of May the sunset happened at the sea horizon.
From the 27th of May the sunset happened above the coastline (Licata – Agrigento – Sicily).

My location: Gatto Corvino – Marina di Ragusa (Rg) Sicily – Ita (https://goo.gl/maps/YYRmq86uXak) 36°48’47.5″N 14°33’55.9″E
Height: 178 above s.l.
